EUPM² : European Project Managers

EUPM² Erasmus+ project defines the future of the European Project

Published on: 27/09/2022 News

The EUPM² Erasmus+ project aims to increase students’ job opportunities in a dynamic and attractive sector through the improvement of their skills and abilities in managing EU-funded projects by defining a common knowledge framework integrating EU Project design and management methodologies. The integration work will be based on the “OPEN PM²” initiative of the European Commission for promoting a common and European-wide project management methodology (PM²).

The EUPM2 project is coordinated by the University of Rome "Tor Vergata" and has been funded under the Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnership program. The project will gather 7 universities from different EU countries including Spain (Polytechnic University of Madrid), Slovenia (Alma Mater University), Austria (Joanneum University of Applied Sciences), Portugal (New University of Lisbon), Estonia (University of Tartu) and the Czech Republic (University of Pardubice) as well as some associated partners: Unioncamere Europa (BEL), PM2 Alliance (BEL), ARCI (ITA), Coordinadora de ONG (SPA).

This project by pooling together universities and organizations with relevant expertise in the EU project design and project management aims to better align higher education sector curricula with opportunities and requests from the job market for the profile of EU project manager. The main objective is to create a common academic path based on a shared curriculum that integrates project design and management methodology to better manage EU-funded projects.

The integration work will be based on the recent “OPEN PM²” initiative of the European Commission for promoting a common and European-wide project management methodology (PM²). The PM² methodology is particularly fitting for the purpose of creating a standardized curriculum for university students. PM² is in fact a European open-source methodology, light, lean and easy to understand, and significantly flexible to be adapted to the specific rules and context of the EU funds and with the most common EU project design methodologies.

Project partners will be involved to develop a new operational method based on the PM2 standard to effectively manage the entire life cycle of an EU-funded project linked to a defined set of knowledge, competencies, abilities, and resources. The curriculum will be tested through pilot local university courses to be held by the partner universities for their students and validated for wider adoption.
